The life of a popular biker killed in a crash in Dover has been commemorated as hundreds of friends and family let lanterns go from Langdon Cliffs.

Cam Bracey, 21, was remembered at the gathering last night after he died when he lost control of his motorbike in Upper Road and hitting a car.

It was organised via a Facebook memorial page, where hundreds of people have been sharing tributes and fond memories.

Friend Emilly Marsh posted: "Beautiful evening! Lovely to see people pulling together for a special person.

"Even if most if us couldn't light the lanterns properly! Tonight proved how many peoples lives you touched throughout yours. Gone too soon but always in our hearts."

Elli Spicer said "the whole of Dover stopped to light the sky for the king of our stars".

One mourner, who is on holiday in Egypt, "lit up the Red Sea" in Mr Bracey's memory.

Former Astor College and Canterbury College pupil Mr Bracey has been described as polite, kind-hearted and caring.

A friend, speaking on behalf of Mr Bracey's family, said in a statement released by police today: "I live in the same street as Cam and he became such a good friend to myself and my family.

"Cameron, known by most as Cam, was the definition of what a gentleman should be.

"He was a great friend to so many, a loving brother to Chris and the best a son could be for his mother Jane, who he doted on as she did him.

"It was evident that Cam and his mum had a wonderful relationship and clear that they were also best of friends.

"He was known for his contagious smile, his politeness and kind and caring ways. He always made time to talk to everybody and was genuinely loved by everyone that had the honour to have him as part of their life.

"Cam lived life to the full and loved to socialise and attended many music events most weekends. The town has lost such a lovely young man and our street and the town will never be the same without him."

A police spokesman said Mr Bracey appeared to lose control of his bike before being involved in a crash with an oncoming blue Vauxhall Agila.

The driver of the Vauxhall suffered minor injuries, police said.

Police collision investigators are still appealing for witnesses to help them establish the circumstances of the crash.
