Contract talks on the backburner
00:00, 23 December 2005
THE future of several Gillingham players is uncertain after manager Ronnie Jepson said the club is not in a financial position to discuss new contracts with players whose deals expire in the summer.
Several first team players, including experienced regulars Ian Cox, Chris Hope and Darren Byfield, as well as youngsters Jon Wallis and Frannie Collin, are on deals that expire at the end of the season.
But Jepson admits his hands are tied financially, although he said the situation may change in the new year.
He said: "I won’t be considering any contracts at this moment because of the financial limitations on the club.
"It’s too early to say whether people are worthy of a contract yet. Come the end of February, then we might be able to discuss things."
