M20 junction 4 at Leybourne to close for bridge works on A228 between Snodland and West Malling
08:00, 08 October 2016
Disruption is expected when the M20 closes later today at junction 4 for Leybourne.
The carriageway under the junction roundabout with the A228 will be closed between 8pm tonight and 6am tomorrow morning.
During the closure, traffic will be diverted up and down the slip roads.
The northbound A228, which connects West Malling to Snodland and Medway, will remain open for the duration of the works.
The southbound carriageway will be disrupted however.
From 4am this morning, the southbound carriageway has been reduced to two lanes rather than four.
The lanes will be further reduced down to one lane from 3pm.
These lane closures are in place to allow workers to bring in the new beams for the bridge and put them in place.
The closures will be in place until 3am on Sunday.
The beams will be built this afternoon, ready for the motorway closure tonight.
There will then be two cranes adjacent to the bridge on the motorway once it is closed at 8pm, which will lift the beams into place.
