Head coach Taff Gwilliam says Medway RFC’s historic promotion to London 1 South on Saturday was the club’s ‘finest day.’
Medway overcame London Cornish at a packed Priestfields to secure victory in the London & South East divisional play-offs and continue a meteoric rise up the regional rugby ladder.
Gwilliam said: “Certainly since leagues were introduced then Saturday has to be our finest day, it was the culmination of a lot of hard work from a lot of people.
“The club has been improving on and off the field year-on-year. In 2006 Medway were in the old Kent 3 and now we’re in London 1 - that is a significant improvement and credit to everyone involved.
“We had a huge crowd, it was a fantastic day and everyone was just basking in it.”
Gwilliam says there remains room for further improvement, claiming: “Another promotion is certainly possible, it may not be next year, but we try to improve with every game and every season.
“So long as we improve in a sustainable way, that’s the most important thing, we don’t want to get ahead of ourselves.
“I would not say we will look to consolidate in London 1, consolidate means you are lacking ambition. We will go out and try to win every game, improve on each performance and try and finish as high as we can.”
