Motorists faced six miles of tailbacks on the M25 following an accident.
Traffic had to be stopped shortly before 7am to allow the incident, which involved four cars and two vans, to be coned off.
Two lanes of the motorway were closed clockwise between junction 5 for the M26 and Clacket Lane services.
As of 9.30am, all lanes had been reopened.
There was congestion on the M25 back to junction 4 for Orpington, and queues on the M26 to join the affected stretch.
