Funds to help sick tot Oliver Smith were boosted by more than £3,500 over the bank holiday weekend.

Two-year-old Oliver, of Coral Road, Minster, is battling the childhood cancer neuroblastoma and his family are trying to raise £150,000 for treatment he could need in Germany if his condition worsens.

On Saturday, there was a 24-hour karaoke session at the Gourmet Munch in Leysdown which raised £2,000.

A fun day at the Queen Phillippa pub in Queenborough on Sunday raised £1,000.

As well as loads of activities for children including a raffle, face painting and party games, there was also a free barbecue, live music and a disco.

The Red Lion pub in Blue Town hosted a 10-hour darts marathon on Sunday.

Sponsorship for those that took part is yet to be collected but a barbecue raised £360 and a further £183.61 was put into a collection bucket.

With this fundraising added to the total, it means generous Islanders have now raised £38,883 for the Oliver Smith Appeal.

Meanwhile, a session has taken place to record a CD which will be sold to raise even more money for the appeal.

It was the brain wave of Jody Bodiam, of Lovell Road, Minster, and 12 artists went along to record tracks for the album at his house on Monday.

Kyle Barton, who runs mobile recording company Stegosaurus Studios, took his portable equipment along to record the disc and is now putting the finishing touches to it before it can be released.

To find out who was involved with the CD and where you can get your copy, see next week’s Times Guardian.

Members of the Isle of Sheppey Round Table are also getting on board to help Oliver – they are raffling eight exclusive Round Table pin badges for the appeal.

Oliver’s mum Natalie has said that if anyone has collected money for the appeal but does not know where to send it, it can be dropped into the Times Guardian office or John Copland and Son Solicitors in High Street, Sheerness.

Alternatively you can phone Natalie on 07715 694717.
