Penshurst Place and Gardens will feature in a new six-part drama series.

The historic home was used as a filming location during the summer for BBC2's new programme Wolf Hall.

The grounds hosted a raft of stars including Ashford-born Mark Rylance who plays Oliver Cromwell and Claire Foy as Anne Boleyn.

"Wolf Hall" charts the rise of Cromwell in the Tudor court from his lowly start as a blacksmith's son to Henry VIII's closest adviser.

The drama features scenes shot in historic rooms including the Long Gallery, Tapestry Room and Baron's Hall.

Ben Thomas, general manager at Penshurst Place and Gardens said: "We were thrilled that Penshurst Place was used as a filming location for this wonderful story, particularly as the property was once owned by Henry VIII and has barely changed in 600 years.

"The Long Gallery, one of the locations used to film scenes at Whitehall, remains historically accurate to the Tudor period. In common with other nobility over the ages, Henry would have used The Long Gallery to walk and take exercise in inclement weather while engaging in conversation courtiers."

Built in 1341 and described as ‘the most perfect example of a defended manor house’, Penshurst Place regularly attracts film scouts looking for historical architecture and authentic interiors.

Baron’s Hall appeared in Merlin, The Other Boleyn Girl and Anne of The Thousand Days.

The house and grounds most recently featured in The Great Firebroadcast by ITV in Autumn 2014.

The six-part series will hit screens at 9pm on Wednesday, January 21 on BBC2.
